Burn Scar Release - Elbow

This young 35 year old woman entered the clinic on the fourth day of the camp. She has burns over 90% of her body all of which were self-inflicted. There is a cultural challenge in India that ostracizes women who are not asked to be married by their first suitor.  From then on she is a social outcast in the community and generally has little to no chance of marrying. Unfortunately this has driven many women to attempt suicide by means of burning themselves to death. In this woman's case she was unsuccessful and was left with a very unfortunate result.

She asked our doctors if we could try to make her life more comfortable by releasing the scar tissue on her left elbow which prevented her from straightening her arm. Dr. George was eager to do what he could and performed a very extensive burn scar release procedure.
